"The ultimate goal of therapy... it's too hard a question. The words come to me like tranquility, like fulfillment, like realizing your potential." ——Irvin D. Yalom

Meet J D
Founder & Clinical Counsellor
Hi, I’m J D — Clinical Counsellor, Founder of Radiant Heart Counselling, Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), mother of three wonderful children, and grateful to have spent the past fifteen years growing through the joys and challenges of intercultural marriage and family life.
Life can feel overwhelming at times. We may lose connection with ourselves while caring for others, adapting to change, or carrying more than we realize.
I support individuals, couples, and families through anxiety, relationship challenges, emotional overwhelm, life transitions, parenting, and personal growth. Having lived across different regions of China and now in Canada within an intercultural family, I bring both professional training and lived experience to understanding the ways culture, identity, relationships, and belonging shape our lives.
My hope is to offer a warm and culturally responsive space where healing, clarity, and meaningful change can emerge.

Frequently Asked Questions
Consider the therapist’s qualifications, experience, approach, availability, fees, and cultural background. Most importantly, choose someone you feel comfortable talking to and understood by. Still not sure? A free 15-minute consultation is highly recommended to help you get a sense of whether we are a good fit.
In most cases, yes. Everything you share is kept confidential unless there are legal or safety concerns that require disclosure. The limits of confidentiality will be explained before we begin working together.
In the first session, we will explore the challenges that bring you to counselling and gain a better understanding of your current situation. We will also discuss your goals, develop an initial plan for our work together, and talk about the recommended frequency of sessions moving forward.
Payment is due after each session is completed. A receipt will be provided for your records and for insurance reimbursement purposes, if applicable.
Yes. Direct billing is available for some major insurance providers, including but not limited to Blue Cross, Canada Life, Manulife, and other providers connected through TELUS Health. If direct billing is not available through your plan, a receipt will be provided for you to submit for reimbursement according to your coverage.
There are two main things to check: whether your plan includes coverage for counselling or psychotherapy and which professional credentials are eligible for reimbursement. Our counsellors hold the Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) designation, which is accepted by many insurance providers. If you’re unsure, we recommend contacting your insurance company directly to confirm your coverage.
It’s important that you feel safe and comfortable in counselling. If something doesn’t feel right, we encourage you to bring it up and discuss it openly with your therapist. Clients are always free to switch therapists if they feel another therapist may be a better fit, and this can be a helpful conversation to have as part of the counselling process.
The number and frequency of sessions varies from person to person and depends on your goals, concerns, and circumstances. Some clients find a few sessions helpful, while others benefit from longer-term support. We will work together to decide on a suitable session frequency and review progress regularly.
Change also looks different for everyone. Some clients begin to notice new insights or small shifts after the first session, while for others, changes emerge more gradually over several sessions. We will regularly check in and adjust the pace and focus based on your needs and goals.
We understand that finances can sometimes be a barrier to accessing therapy, and we strive to make counselling as accessible as possible. A limited number of sliding scale spots are available each month. Sliding scale rates are determined based on your current financial situation, including factors such as income and expenses. If cost is a concern, please feel free to reach out and inquire about availability. We will do our best to explore options and find an arrangement that works for you. If no sliding scale spots are currently available, we are also happy to discuss other resources that may help make counselling more accessible.
